Google Pixel 10a Ditches Bump for Sleek, Flat Look

Google has introduced the Pixel 10a, marking a significant design departure by completely removing the camera bump for a flat phone. This move enhances usability, allowing the device to rest flush on surfaces.

The 6.3-inch Actua display has been upgraded to 3,000 nits brightness and supports a 120Hz refresh rate, though it defaults to 60Hz. Build-wise, the Pixel 10a sports a plastic back and Gorilla Glass 7i on the front, differing from the Pixel 10's Victus 2. It also packs a substantial 5,100 mAh battery, outperforming the base Pixel 10's 4,970 mAh.

Under the hood, the Pixel 10a is powered by the Tensor G4 chip, the same as the Pixel 9a, meaning no performance leap from its predecessor. This also restricts it from running the Gemini Nano model, limiting on-device AI capabilities such as notification summaries and call notes.

Camera hardware remains consistent with a 48-megapixel main and 13-megapixel ultrawide lens. New AI camera features like Camera Coach and Auto Best Take are included, alongside 8x super-res zoom. Google promises seven years of software updates and introduces a Quick Share feature compatible with AirDrop for easier file transfers.

Priced at $499, the Pixel 10a offers compelling value with its battery life, bright screen, and flat design. However, those with a Pixel 9a may find little reason to upgrade, and competitors like the Nothing 4a Pro present a strong challenge with superior specifications at the same price point.
