Design choices became critical in 3D modeling.

Google is empowering the creative community by open-sourcing its entire 3D emoji set. The company announced on World Emoji Day that it is making raw .OBJ files available to the public. This move is intended to allow developers and artists to freely use the emoji assets in their own projects.

These projects could range from immersive virtual reality worlds to independent applications or even unique internet memes. Google provided a behind-the-scenes look at its design process, emphasizing the complexities that arise when translating familiar 2D icons into three-dimensional models. Considerations like whether a smiley face should be a sphere or a flat disc become crucial in this new dimension.
