- AI can answer contextual questions about directions and destinations.
- Navigation interface receives a 3D overhaul for enhanced realism.

Google is integrating its Gemini AI into Google Maps, introducing an "Ask Maps" feature accessible via a dedicated button. This upgrade aims to function as a personalized concierge for drivers, capable of answering conversational queries using Google's extensive data on businesses and locations.
The AI will leverage user-submitted data, web information, and business details from over 300 million locations. Results are personalized based on user history, offering tailored recommendations for dining or activities.
Alongside the AI integration, Google Maps is receiving a visual overhaul with a 3D navigation interface. This update aims to more accurately represent terrain, buildings, and safety features like crosswalks and stop signs.
Voice guidance is also being refined for clearer instructions, especially for complex maneuvers and the "final mile" of a trip, indicating building entrances and parking. "Ask Maps" is now available in the U.S. and India, with desktop access soon, while the 3D navigation will roll out gradually to eligible devices and platforms.
