Google has finally released its new smart home speaker, the Google Home Speaker, priced at $99.99 and available for pre-order starting today, June 25. This marks Google's first home audio device release in nearly six years, following the Nest Audio in September 2020.
The Google Home Speaker features a compact, round design covered in recycled fabric, available in four colors. It promises 360-degree sound and a glowing light ring around the bottom to indicate when it's listening or processing. Three far-field microphones are included, along with a physical mute switch for privacy.
Internally, the speaker is equipped with a quad-core processor and NPU, enabling local AI models for enhanced sound isolation and noise filtering. Despite these advancements, its single 58 mm full-range driver suggests audio quality will be between that of the Nest Audio and the smaller Nest Mini.
Beyond basic smart speaker functions, the Google Home Speaker can pair with Google TV streamers for immersive audio and integrates with other Nest devices. Purchasing the speaker also includes a six-month subscription to Google Home Premium, unlocking advanced AI features and Gemini Live conversations directly on the device.
