Google Home has introduced substantial quality-of-life improvements and a novel AI capability, "Live Search," announced by Anish Katturkan, head of the division. These advancements are driven by the Gemini for Home service, which was launched in October 2025 as the designated replacement for Google Assistant on smart devices.
The Live Search feature allows users to inquire about their home's current status by leveraging camera feeds, such as asking if a car is present. This functionality is exclusively available to Google Home Premium subscribers, who pay a monthly fee of $20.
Gemini for Home now incorporates updated models to elevate the precision and accuracy of responses, including more reliable playback of new music releases. Additional enhancements include refined targeting for smart home devices by room and house, fewer instances of premature speaker cut-offs, and improved dependability for user-created voice automations.
Furthermore, Google Home has enhanced support for the Nest x Yale lock. This includes advanced passcode management for guests, a more detailed activity history, immediate notifications for lock events, and improved locking settings like single-touch locking.
