Google has officially adjusted its timeline for migrating Android devices from its Assistant platform to the advanced AI, Gemini. Originally slated for completion by the end of 2025, the company has now extended this transition into 2026. This revised schedule aims to guarantee a seamless experience for users of Android 10 or later with at least 2GB of RAM.
The Assistant app, still available for download, will eventually cease functioning on newer devices, nudging users towards Gemini. Google has indicated that further details regarding this transition will be shared in the coming months, suggesting a gradual rollout well into next year.
Beyond mobile devices, Google is also extending Gemini's capabilities to its smart home ecosystem. An early access beta for Gemini for Home has commenced, with initial access granted to users in Canada, followed by French language support in early 2026. This move follows significant AI advancements from Google in 2025.
