Google has begun a global rollout of AI-powered voice assistant capabilities for Gmail, Docs, and Keep, enabling users to interact with these applications hands-free. The new features, branded as Gmail Live, Docs Live, and Keep Live, are designed to facilitate easier information retrieval and note-taking, especially for users on the move.
Gmail Live assists users by verbally summarizing requested information from emails, such as upcoming events, while also providing links to the source emails. Docs Live offers to structure and summarize content based on verbal descriptions, capable of pulling data from Gmail, Drive, Chat, and the web for personalized outputs. Keep Live allows for natural language transcription and contextualized note-taking, like adding items to a shopping list.
These AI enhancements were first previewed in May and are now available in English on mobile platforms. Gmail Live supports iOS and Android for specific Google AI subscription tiers, while Docs Live and Keep Live have slightly different platform and subscription availability. Google has indicated that these features will also be available for Workspace business customers soon.
