GoDaddy has introduced its new Agent Name Service (ANS), a system designed to bring order and trust to the burgeoning landscape of AI agents. The company claims ANS is the internet's first trust layer for AI agents, aiming to establish a universal standard for their verification and discovery. It is anticipated that one billion AI agents will be created within the next three years, raising concerns about rogue agents and imposter bots.
The ANS platform assigns each AI agent a unique, human-readable name alongside an identity that can be cryptographically verified. This new service is built upon existing internet infrastructure, including domain names, DNS, and PKI certificates, and adheres to W3C/DID standards. A key feature is its ability to be resolved directly within a browser without requiring any additional plug-ins, enabling agents to be discovered, verified, and governed across the open web.
Alongside the open standard, GoDaddy is launching the ANS Registry, which allows users to verify AI agent domain ownership. Registered agents will receive an ANS-verified badge, assisting users in identifying vetted agents. Development for ANS commenced in October 2025, with the API later made available to developers. The ANS Standards were published on GitHub in November 2025. Travis Muhlestein, GoDaddy's Product and AI CTO, stated that ANS offers a clear badge of trust for responsible builders and allows users to easily identify the entity behind an AI agent.
