Gemini's Chat: No More 'Hey Google' Needed!
21 Apr
Summary
- Gemini for Home now supports continued conversations.
- Users can talk naturally without repeating 'Hey Google'.
- The update is rolling out globally to all supported languages.

Google has announced a significant upgrade to its Gemini for Home service, introducing a "continued conversations" feature. This new functionality eliminates the need for users to repeatedly preface their requests with the "Hey Google" wake word, enabling more natural, flowing dialogues with the AI assistant.
When Gemini responds, its smart devices will briefly pulse or glow, signaling that the microphone remains active for a short window. During this time, users can ask follow-up questions without interruption. The AI is designed to retain conversational context, aiming to provide information more efficiently by avoiding the need for users to repeat details.
This enhanced feature is rolling out today across all languages supported by the Gemini for Home voice assistant and in every region where it operates. To activate it, users must navigate to the settings within the Google Home app and enable "Gemini for Home voice assistant."
Google states that Gemini will differentiate between follow-up questions and other ambient conversations. The company has been positioning Gemini for Home as a successor to the Google Assistant platform since last fall, with this update marking a key step in that transition.
