Summary
- Gem Browser uses AI to visually alter any webpage.
- It can make sites resemble punk zines or comic books.
- The tool is an experimental beta app for iOS.

A new experimental mobile browser, Gem Browser, allows users to apply AI-generated visual filters to any website they visit. Developed by Vidy Thatte, a senior project engineer at Google DeepMind, the tool utilizes Gemini 3.5-Flash Lite to create custom aesthetics for web pages.
This functionality enables users to make sites like Facebook or Google Search appear as, for instance, punk zines or comic books. Initially, the concept explored generating entirely new pages for non-existent URLs, inspired by Google's Disco project.
However, applying these AI filters raises concerns about undermining the original design intentions of content creators and the potential for AI hallucinations to inject false information. Gem Browser is presently available as a beta application through Apple's TestFlight service for iOS users.
