Geely's Battleship SUV: China's Defender Challenger Arrives

Geely is set to launch its new, rugged Galaxy Battleship 700 SUV in the United Kingdom in 2028. This imposing 4x4 is designed to compete directly with established off-road legends such as the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser. The production version is expected to closely resemble the concept shown, retaining its upright, boxy, and aggressive styling, which draws inspiration from iconic vehicles like the Defender, Land Cruiser, and Ford Bronco.

Inside, the Battleship 700 is slated to offer a premium cabin experience, featuring numerous physical switches for off-road controls and a central console reminiscent of a Lamborghini Urus. Geely's design chief has indicated the interior will be more comfortable than the current Defender's. Technologically, the SUV is expected to be built on a platform shared with other Geely group vehicles, including Lotus and Zeekr models. A standout feature will be its AI system, designed to intelligently manage the plug-in hybrid powertrain based on terrain.

Geely has emphasized that the Battleship 700 is engineered to be a genuine off-roader, not just a visually rugged SUV. The company has pushed the platform's limits to maximize ground clearance and accommodate large wheels, subjecting prototypes to rigorous testing in extreme environments. This new model represents Geely's first significant step into the off-road segment, with potential for future models if the Battleship receives a positive market reception.
