Garmin Connect+ Fails to Impress Users: 80% Skip Paid Tier
26 Mar
Summary
- 80% of surveyed Garmin users ignored the new Connect+ subscription.
- Only 5% of users found the premium features valuable.
- A small fraction of users switched brands due to the paywall.

A year following its introduction, Garmin's premium subscription service, Connect+, has largely failed to resonate with its user base. Announced with a monthly fee for AI features and an improved LiveTrack service, the service sparked significant user anger, with many fearing a gradual shift of features behind a paywall.
Recent polling of 1,325 Garmin users shows a significant lack of adoption. A commanding 80% of respondents indicated they "never bothered" to sign up for Connect+. Furthermore, only 12% tried the service and returned to the free tier, while a mere 5% reported being satisfied with the paid features.
The strong user sentiment against the subscription is evident, with some users expressing intent to switch brands if essential features become paywalled. Out of the surveyed users, only 36 individuals actually switched from Garmin entirely due to the Connect+ announcement, suggesting most users either remain on the free tier or are considering alternatives.
