New Buds 4 Pro: Better Sound, Galaxy Still Key

Samsung has launched its latest Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, aiming to deliver more than just a design update. These earbuds feature upgraded woofers for enhanced hi-fi sound and dual-amped audio, alongside a new blade design and improved call clarity. Noise cancellation has also seen improvements over the previous generation.

The sound profile of the Buds 4 Pro offers smoother midrange frequencies, making vocals more enjoyable. While bass levels are robust, they can be adjusted using a 9-band EQ in the app. For Galaxy device users, the Buds 4 Pro support 24-bit / 96kHz hi-resolution audio, providing a more spacious listening experience on compatible tracks.

Active noise cancellation on the Buds 4 Pro effectively reduces low-end rumbles and shows improvement in handling midrange frequencies, though it doesn't reach the level of top-tier competitors. Call performance is strong, with an array of microphones isolating voice from background noise like wind and traffic.

A significant aspect is the earbuds' integration with the Galaxy ecosystem. Features like hi-res audio, Gemini and Bixby voice activation, head gestures, interpreter translation, Auracast, auto switch, and HD voice calling are exclusive to Samsung Galaxy devices. While some features work with other Android devices via the Galaxy Wear app, functionality is limited for iPhones and other platforms.

The design retains the stem aesthetic with capacitive touch controls for volume and playback. The earbuds are IP57 rated, making them suitable for workouts. The transparent charging case supports wireless charging and is notably compact compared to rivals.

Ultimately, the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro perform well and offer compelling features, but their best experience is reserved for Samsung Galaxy users. Non-Galaxy Android users and iPhone users may find better alternatives if full functionality is desired.
