Airport Beams Info Directly to Hearing Aids

Frankfurt Airport has pioneered a new Bluetooth-based system designed to assist travelers with hearing loss by transmitting information directly to their personal devices. This groundbreaking implementation utilizes Auracast, a broadcast audio technology that delivers gate announcements straight to passengers' hearing aids, earbuds, and smartphones.

The technology has been installed at departure gates A16 and A17 in Terminal 1, allowing passengers with compatible hearing aids or smartphones to tune into a direct audio stream. This bypasses the need to decipher announcements amidst airport noise, offering a clearer and more personal audio experience akin to a phone call.

This initiative, led by Sittig Technologies in collaboration with Fraport and the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, aims to create a more inclusive travel environment. Project partners will gather traveler and staff feedback over the next two months to evaluate the system's effectiveness and passenger satisfaction.

Auracast also supports the concept of a 'silent airport,' reducing reliance on loudspeaker announcements by providing direct, personal updates. This innovation promises to transform airport communication by integrating seamlessly with existing infrastructure, making travel more accessible for millions worldwide.
