The Framework Laptop 12 has been updated with Intel's Core Series 3 processors, bringing substantial hardware enhancements. This refresh introduces improved battery life, with the Core 5 model showing a 70% increase in streaming performance compared to its predecessor. Users can configure the laptop with up to 48GB of RAM, though this comes at an additional cost.
The new Intel chips also enable Thunderbolt 4 support on two of the four hot-swappable Expansion Card slots and faster DDR5 RAM. While the 12.2-inch display remains the same, optional upgrades now include a backlit keyboard and a fingerprint reader. These features are standard on pre-built Core 5 and Core 7 Linux models.
Framework continues its strong support for Linux, with over 80 percent of original Laptop 12 owners running the OS. The new model comes pre-installed with Fedora, and Windows 11 is available for an additional $100. Pre-orders are open, with shipping anticipated to begin in October.
