Summary
- A startup plans to build the first hotel on the moon by 2032.
- A $1 million deposit is required for a stay at the lunar hotel.
- The hotel will be constructed on Earth and inflated on the moon.

GRU Space, a startup based in San Francisco, has declared its intention to establish the first hotel on the moon by 2032. The company has begun accepting deposits of $1 million from potential guests for stays estimated at $416,667 per night. This venture aims to create the first permanent structure built off-Earth, capable of hosting four guests for several days.
The initial hotel is slated for construction on Earth and will be shipped to be inflated on the moon's surface, with an expected lifespan of 10 years. A second iteration is planned with a 20-year lifespan, utilizing local lunar materials and advanced construction methods. The hotel's design will incorporate lunar pits for enhanced shielding and thermal stability, drawing architectural inspiration from San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts.
Despite GRU Space's ambitions, the feasibility of a lunar hotel by 2032 remains uncertain due to numerous challenges, including the current lack of civilian transport to the moon and the necessity for life support systems. Meanwhile, the United States is renewing its focus on lunar exploration, with NASA's Artemis 2 mission scheduled to orbit the moon, supporting future landing objectives. GRU Space also envisions expanding its efforts to Mars after establishing its lunar presence.
