Summary
- Floating device measures temperature, free chlorine, and pH.
- Integrated dispenser uses chlorine tablets for automated adjustments.
- Solar-powered system connects to a mobile app for remote control.

A San Francisco Bay Area startup, SunnyWhale, introduced its innovative pool water management system, FinWhale, at CES 2026. This floating device, about the size of a milk jug, autonomously monitors water temperature, free chlorine levels, and pH, sending data to a mobile app. Its most distinctive feature is an integrated chamber that holds six chlorine tablets, dispensing them to maintain desired chemical balance.
Powered by solar energy, FinWhale utilizes Wi-Fi to communicate with a cloud system, ensuring constant monitoring. Users can set preferred chemical levels via the FinWhale app. The system aims to reduce the manual effort involved in pool upkeep, with a full set of tablets expected to last up to three weeks under normal conditions.
FinWhale is designed for pools up to 20,000 gallons and boasts an IP68 weatherproof rating, allowing it to remain in the pool year-round unless the water freezes. SunnyWhale anticipates a release in Q3 2026, with pricing to be finalized. The device is expected to have a lifespan of two to three years.
