14 Mar
Summary
- FBI seeks Steam users who downloaded malware-infected games.
- Malware-laden games were available on Steam from May 2024 to Jan 2026.
- One game, BlockBlasters, caused $150,000 in crypto losses.

The FBI's Seattle field office has initiated a search for individuals impacted by malware distributed through Steam games. Threat actors are believed to have targeted Steam users between May 2024 and January 2026. Several games, including BlockBlasters, Chemia, and Dashverse/DashFPS, have been identified as containing embedded malware.
Gamers who suspect they may have downloaded these infected titles are asked to provide details to the FBI. This includes their Steam username, the games downloaded, and the approximate download date. The investigation also seeks to understand if victims were contacted by threat actors or experienced losses.
These losses could range from financial accounts and cryptocurrency to Steam inventory items. While many infected games were not widely popular, one title, BlockBlasters, was responsible for an estimated $150,000 in cryptocurrency theft from a single user's compromised computer. All identified malware-infected games have since been removed from the Steam platform.
