Summary
- Eridu, an AI networking startup, raised $200 million in Series A funding.
- The company aims to revolutionize AI data center communication methods.
- Founder Drew Perkins has a long history of successful tech ventures.

AI networking startup Eridu has officially emerged from stealth, announcing a $200 million Series A funding round. This significant investment was led by Socratic Partners, renowned venture capitalist John Doerr, and Matter Venture Partners, bringing Eridu's total funding to $230 million. The company is co-founded and led by Drew Perkins, a veteran inventor with a history of building successful tech companies since the early internet age.
Perkins recognized a critical bottleneck in AI development: not just chip access, but how these chips communicate. Following conversations with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Perkins understood that the methods of interconnectivity between millions of GPUs would become the next major challenge. This realization spurred the founding of Eridu in 2024 with co-founder Omar Hassen, focusing on a complete rethinking of networking from the silicon up.
Eridu is developing new chips and systems designed specifically for AI, integrating more networking functions directly onto the silicon. This approach aims to replace current multi-tiered optical connections with on-chip communications, reducing latency and improving power efficiency. Traditional networking solutions are reportedly improving at a much slower rate than GPU compute and memory bandwidth, highlighting the need for Eridu's innovation.
The company anticipates its systems will eventually occupy the space in AI data centers that traditional network gear providers fill in classic data centers. The significant Series A round, which was oversubscribed, underscores strong investor confidence in Eridu's vision and its experienced founding team.
