Summary
- Nvidia's new driver supports Microsoft's Advanced Shader Delivery.
- This technology aims to eliminate shader-compilation stutters.
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Gears of War: E-Day are first supported games.

PC gamers may soon bid farewell to the persistent problem of shader-stutter. Nvidia's recent GeForce 621.01 driver update now incorporates support for Microsoft's Advanced Shader Delivery technology. This innovative feature is designed to allow supported games to skip the lengthy local shader compilation process entirely.
Initially showcased for handhelds and AMD PCs, Advanced Shader Delivery's integration with Nvidia drivers marks a significant step. It aims to reduce the dreaded stutters that have hampered major PC releases, including titles from 2023 like Forspoken and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Developers can now utilize a standardized State Object Database, which Microsoft then processes to generate precompiled shaders tailored to individual hardware.
While this technology won't fix all PC performance issues like optimization or asset streaming, it addresses a fundamental problem. By delivering ready-to-run shaders and enabling automatic cache updates, Nvidia reports nearly 100 percent shader-cache hit rates in compatible games. This advancement is expected to make powerful gaming PCs feel more responsive and provide a smoother overall experience.
