Summary
- A new collar translates human speech into AI-generated dog barks.
- The device allows owners to give commands like 'Give me a kiss'.
- Experts doubt the ability to hold complex conversations with dogs.

A technology firm has introduced a new gadget that purports to translate human speech into dog language. The California-based company, Traini, is marketing what it calls the 'world's first real-time human-dog conversational collar'. Demonstrations on the company's website feature the device enabling owners to communicate simple requests to their pets.
For instance, a man asks his phone for the remote, and the translator converts his words into AI barks, eliciting a response from his dog. Another example shows the app translating an owner's command, 'Give me a kiss,' which the pet then acts upon. Traini describes the tool as an AI that aligns technology with pet well-being.
However, skepticism exists regarding the device's capabilities. Celebrity dog trainer Sharon Bolt questioned the notion of holding full conversations with pets. While acknowledging that an app might recognize different emotional tones in barks, she stated, 'I can't see the logic in being able to have a conversation with it.' Bolt suggested that dogs might understand specific phrases like 'dinner' or 'walkies' but not general conversation.
