DJI Drone Sees Through Darkness with Thermal AI
7 Nov
Summary
- Drone features 1K thermal camera for spotting heat signatures in darkness.
- AI object tracking identifies over 20 categories, including humans.
- Up to 59 minutes flight time and IP55 rating for harsh conditions.

DJI's new Matrice 5T enterprise drone is engineered to tackle search and rescue operations in extreme conditions, including pitch-black darkness and severe weather. Its core feature is a high-resolution 1K thermal camera, capable of detecting faint heat signatures crucial for locating missing individuals in challenging environments.
Complementing the thermal imaging, the drone integrates advanced AI object tracking. This technology can simultaneously analyze thermal and standard video feeds to identify more than 20 object categories, such as vehicles and people. This allows responders to efficiently scan patrol zones and flag potential targets.
The Matrice 5T is built for endurance and reliability, offering up to 59 minutes of flight time and an IP55 weather-resistance rating. It can operate in temperatures ranging from minus-20 to 50 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for disaster relief efforts and infrastructure inspection where conditions are often harsh.
