DJI Drones Face Looming US Sales Ban Amid National Security Concerns
13 Nov
Summary
- FCC votes to "close loopholes" allowing tech deemed security risk
- DJI warns of "automatic ban" if no audit by 43-day deadline
- US government labels Chinese drone maker a security threat

As of November 13th, 2025, the future of DJI drones in the US hangs in the balance. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recently voted 3-0 to "close loopholes" that have allowed technology deemed a "national security risk" to be sold in the country. This move is widely seen as a precursor to banning DJI's products from the American market.
The Chinese drone maker is already sounding the alarm, warning that a "deadline that could decide DJI's fate in the US is just 43 days away." DJI has stated that without a government-mandated audit, its products could face an "automatic ban." The US government has long considered the company a security threat, and it appears the crackdown is imminent, just before the holiday season.
While the FCC vote is not the final step, it sets the stage for potential bans on future and existing DJI drones, as well as products that utilize the company's technology. The government has called for the audit to be completed by the end of this year, and if that doesn't happen, DJI's drone products could be prohibited from sale in the US by default under a national security law.
