Discord's Public Chats Go Live on the Web
28 Oct
Summary
- Discord will display server information and public channel discussions on web pages.
- Messages from public channels may appear verbatim in search results by mid-December.
- Users and admins can opt out of this increased visibility for their content.
Starting November 16, Discord's Discoverable Servers will feature Server Web Pages, enhancing the discoverability of public conversations. These pages will offer basic server information and summaries of discussions from public channels.
By mid-December, Discord plans to allow messages posted in these channels to appear verbatim on Server Web Pages and in search engine results. This initiative aims to make community information more accessible via web searches, similar to how Reddit threads are found.
This feature is exclusive to Discoverable Servers with at least 1,000 members. Private servers and direct messages will remain unaffected. Server administrators can opt out specific channels, and individual users can manage their data privacy settings to prevent their posts from being indexed.
In regions like the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and South Korea, channel messages will be opt-in by default due to local regulations. Teen users are also excluded from enabling this feature until they reach adulthood.
