Summary
- Deutsche Telekom introduces Magenta AI Call Assistant.
- Assistant offers live language translation and more.
- Feature is hardware and software agnostic for ease of use.

Deutsche Telekom is set to launch the Magenta AI Call Assistant, a new AI-powered feature developed in partnership with ElevenLabs. Initially available only in Germany, this innovative tool will be seamlessly integrated into phone calls, eliminating the need for users to download any additional applications or possess specific smartphone models. The assistant can be activated during a call by saying, "Hey Magenta," and can perform various tasks such as providing live language translations, checking calendar availability, and accessing map services for local information.
This new technology was unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2026 by representatives from both Deutsche Telekom and ElevenLabs. While similar AI translation features exist on devices from Apple, Samsung, and Google, the Magenta AI aims to differentiate itself by being hardware and software agnostic, offering a more natural conversational experience. However, the integration of AI into non-encrypted calls has sparked privacy concerns regarding potential data collection and user security, with experts expressing skepticism about its ultimate utility and the implications of its use.
