An incident involving alleged Wi-Fi spoofing occurred on Delta flight 591 traveling from Las Vegas to Atlanta. Passengers, reportedly attendees of the recent DEF CON security conference, are accused of creating an unauthorized Wi-Fi network. This fake hotspot, named 'Delta WiFi Fast,' utilized a phishing landing page designed to steal passenger credentials. The technique is known as an 'evil twin' attack.
Delta confirmed the presence of an unauthorized network for a brief period, but emphasized that the flight's safety and aircraft systems were unaffected. The flight's onboard Wi-Fi was disabled for approximately 30 minutes. The FBI Atlanta bureau has acknowledged the reports and is investigating the situation, though no arrests have been made, and agents did not meet the flight upon arrival.
