Cybertruck Lawsuit: Did FSD Push It Off Overpass?
12 Mar
Summary
- Cybertruck allegedly tried to drive off an overpass in Full Self-Driving mode.
- Owner sues Tesla, claiming negligence in hiring Elon Musk as CEO.
- Lawsuit cites Tesla's reliance on cameras over LiDAR sensors for self-driving.

A Texas woman has filed a lawsuit against Tesla, claiming her Cybertruck, while operating in Full Self-Driving mode, nearly drove off an overpass. The incident occurred on August 18, 2025, near Houston, when the vehicle allegedly failed to navigate a curve, heading instead toward a concrete barrier. The owner, Justine Saint Amour, states she was unable to regain control despite disengaging autopilot.
The lawsuit further alleges that Tesla's leadership, particularly CEO Elon Musk, is responsible for the crash due to engineering decisions and misleading marketing. It specifically points to Musk's rejection of LiDAR sensor technology, which competitors use, in favor of less expensive cameras. The plaintiff argues this choice, along with Musk's alleged over-promising of features, led to the incident.
This legal action is the latest in a string of controversies surrounding Tesla's driver-assistance systems. In 2024, Tesla began adding "(Supervised)" to its Full Self-Driving feature name to emphasize driver attention. The case also follows a recent court decision upholding a $243 million verdict related to a fatal 2019 crash involving Autopilot, and a marketing change in California to avoid license suspension.
