26 Mar
Summary
- Biometric authentication now replaces PINs for UPI payments on CRED.
- Feature covers transactions up to ₹5,000 for all UPI uses.
- Enhanced security and reduced transaction errors are key benefits.

Fintech platform CRED launched a new feature on March 25, 2026, allowing members to authorize UPI payments using biometric authentication. Users can now opt for face recognition or fingerprint scans instead of entering a PIN for transactions up to ₹5,000.
This enhancement covers all UPI use cases on CRED, including credit card bill payments, utility payments, and peer-to-peer transfers. The company states this change streamlines the payment process, minimizing failed or delayed transactions.
Developed in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the biometric feature aligns with regulatory guidelines. It leverages existing device security settings to strengthen fraud protection and improve the overall payment experience for CRED's user base.
CRED, known for its exclusive membership based on high credit scores, offers services like credit card management and credit score tracking. This biometric upgrade is positioned as a significant step in securing and simplifying digital payments for its members.
