Claude Voice Mode Upgraded for Smarter Chats

Anthropic has enhanced Claude's voice mode, enabling it to utilize its more powerful Sonnet and Opus AI models for conversations. Previously, voice queries were routed through the smaller Haiku model to minimize latency, which limited its capability for complex tasks. This update allows users with paid access to select between Haiku, Sonnet, or Opus during a conversation, with the tool defaulting to the last used system.

The updated voice mode now also supports integration with external applications such as Gmail and Slack, provided users grant permission. This allows Claude to access context from these connected services, leading to more informed responses. Interactions are designed to be turn-based, with Claude listening, processing, and then responding, though it does not support simultaneous speech and generation like some other systems.

Further improvements include expanded language support, with Indonesian now included, although Claude cannot automatically detect language switches mid-conversation. Users must manually inform Claude of a language change or select it in settings. These enhancements are currently rolling out in beta across desktop and mobile platforms for all users.
