26 Feb
Summary
- Claude Cowork offers autonomous AI agentic powers beyond simple chat.
- It can read, edit, create, and organize files independently.
- The tool requires the Claude Desktop app to be open and computer awake.

Anthropic has launched Claude Cowork, bringing advanced agentic AI features previously exclusive to Claude Code to a broader audience. This new tool enables users to delegate multi-step tasks to AI, moving beyond simple conversational interactions.
Claude Cowork can autonomously interact with third-party applications and the operating system. Its capabilities include managing files by reading, editing, creating, and organizing them. Additionally, it can generate daily briefings from Slack messages and emails, and conduct research such as competitor analysis or industry news.
Users can schedule recurring tasks through the 'Schedule' tab or by using the '/schedule' command. The AI operates within a dedicated virtual machine, ensuring isolation from the user's primary operating system and requiring explicit permission for sensitive actions like file deletion. Task management, including pausing or running schedules, is accessible via the left sidebar.
For Claude Cowork to operate effectively, the Claude Desktop app must be running on an active, awake computer. If these requirements are not met, scheduled tasks will be skipped and rescheduled once the conditions are fulfilled. The research preview feature is available to all current paid plans.
