Chrome 148: Over 100 Security Fixes Deployed
7 May
Summary
- Chrome 148 fixes over 100 security vulnerabilities, including critical flaws.
- Google discovered 100 of the 127 vulnerabilities with AI tools.
- Three critical vulnerabilities include integer overflow and use-after-free flaws.

Google has rolled out Chrome version 148 across Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, patching a substantial number of security vulnerabilities. The latest update for desktop versions (148.0.7778.96/97) and mobile versions (Android: 148.0.7778.120, iOS: 148.0.7778.100) addresses 127 security flaws, a significant increase attributed partly to AI-driven discovery tools. Google itself identified 100 of these vulnerabilities.
Among the patched issues are three classified as critical: CVE-2026-7896, an integer overflow in the Blink HTML renderer, and CVE-2026-7897 and CVE-2026-7898, both use-after-free vulnerabilities impacting Mobile and Chromoting components. An additional 31 vulnerabilities are high-risk, many also involving use-after-free bugs. Google has awarded $138,000 in bug bounties for these discoveries.
While Chrome typically updates automatically, users can manually check via Help > About Google Chrome. The release of Chrome version 149 is anticipated in early June, continuing the browser's regular update cycle.
