Tencent, a major Chinese technology company, has introduced 'PetTV,' a dedicated 24-hour streaming channel on its Tencent Video platform. This innovative service aims to provide companionship and entertainment for pets, particularly dogs and cats, when their owners are occupied.
The channel's programming is meticulously crafted, considering the unique sensory perceptions of pets. This includes adjustments to colors, refresh rates, and audio frequencies to suit their specific needs. Market research suggests that a considerable number of dog owners, around 66 percent, leave television on for their pets.
PetTV joins a growing market of pet-specific media. Its launch coincides with a significant projected growth in China's urban pet market, which is estimated to reach 405 billion yuan ($59 billion) by 2028, according to PetData.cn.
Last year, the average expenditure per pet in Chinese households was substantial, exceeding 3,000 yuan ($435) for each dog and over 2,000 yuan for each cat for their care. PetTV is available to paid subscribers of Tencent Video.
