- The preview app supports ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex.
- Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora are among the initial supported distros.

OpenAI has officially launched a dedicated desktop application for ChatGPT on Linux, addressing a significant demand from the open-source developer community. This release, which occurred on Tuesday, brings ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex to users across every major desktop operating system. The new app is currently in preview and is available worldwide.
Initial Linux distribution support includes desktop variants of Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04 LTS, Debian 13, and Fedora 43 and 44. OpenAI notes that while hundreds of distributions exist, these chosen ones form the base for many other "downstream" distros, suggesting broad compatibility. This move places OpenAI slightly behind Anthropic, which released its Claude desktop app for Linux about a month prior.
