Chamath Palihapitiya, a notable venture capitalist and podcast host, has officially stepped in as CEO of his AI coding startup, 8090 Labs. This move follows the company's successful closure of a $135 million Series A funding round. The substantial investment was spearheaded by Salesforce Ventures and included contributions from other key figures and firms in the tech industry.

Founded in January 2024, 8090 Labs focuses on developing an AI coding agent tailored for corporate programming teams. Their product, Software Factory, is engineered to empower these teams to generate production-ready software, distinguishing itself from prototype-level AI coding tools by offering essential enterprise features like audit trails.

Palihapitiya expressed his conviction that the current AI surge mirrors the early days of social media, a period he experienced as an early executive at Facebook. He stated this venture is more significant than his prior work, prompting his full commitment to an operating role.
