Campfire Audio has introduced the Chimera in-ear monitors (IEMs), a high-end audio device that challenges the trend towards wireless audio. These premium IEMs are distinguished by their sophisticated internal technology, featuring a total of nine drivers. Among these are a 10mm dynamic driver for lows, balanced armature drivers for mids and clarity, four electrostatic super-tweeters for highs, and a unique bone conduction driver. This bone conduction technology is designed to provide a tactile sensation for sub-bass frequencies, adding a physical dimension to the listening experience.
The Chimera IEMs are as visually striking as they are sonically advanced. Constructed from carbon-fibre and brass, and housed in a magnesium shell, each unit is crafted to have a subtly unique appearance. This meticulous design aims to capture light and enhance their aesthetic appeal in person. Included with the IEMs is a premium cable composed of copper and silver conductors, along with a comprehensive set of eartips, a cleaning kit, and a carrying bag.
With a substantial price tag of $7,500, these IEMs are positioned for a niche market comprising audio professionals and serious head-fi aficionados. The inclusion of four electrostatic drivers per bud is a notable feature, as this technology is not commonly found in consumer audio products. To ensure optimal sound performance, the Chimera incorporates a pressure valve for airflow regulation and a tuning damper.
