Bumble's AI Matchmaker 'Bee' Learns Your Dating Secrets

Dating app maker Bumble is introducing a new AI assistant named 'Bee,' which is currently in internal testing. This AI is designed to learn users' personal details, relationship goals, and communication styles through private conversations to help find more suitable matches.

Bee will initially power a new dating experience called 'Dates,' recommending matches based on shared intentions and values. Bumble also plans for Bee to offer date suggestions and gather feedback from past matches.

This AI integration is part of a larger strategy to re-energize user growth, particularly among Gen Z, who are showing less interest in traditional swiping. Bumble is exploring alternatives like 'chapter-based' profiles, allowing users to express themselves more dynamically and provide richer data for AI algorithms.

The company is also considering removing the swipe feature in select markets. Bumble aims to encourage users to move offline from excessive chatting and better cater to Gen Z's preference for group socializing. Back-end infrastructure has been significantly updated to support these AI enhancements.
