Brompton's Rear Hub E-Bike: A Natural Ride

Brompton has launched a new electric bike range powered by its proprietary e-Motiq rear hub drive system. This innovative technology moves the 250-watt motor from the front to the rear, providing up to 30 Nm of torque for a more natural and stable riding experience. The 345-Wh battery supports a range of up to 45 miles on a single charge.

The e-Motiq system offers three power-assist levels and adapts to the rider's style by monitoring pedal force and cadence. This intelligent adjustment aims to create a smoother, more natural ride rather than solely maximizing mileage. Riders in London, for instance, found the single-speed option sufficient, with the motor easily handling hills and traffic.

A notable feature is the bike's portability; without the battery, the electric Brompton weighs less than its steel non-electric counterpart. This makes it convenient for carrying up stairs or onto public transport. The bike is also expensive, discouraging street parking and theft.
