Bots Hijack Crypto Hype Markets, X Cuts Access
4 Jun
Summary
- Bots overwhelmed crypto influencer leaderboards, degrading user experience.
- Prediction markets like Polymarket integrated attention metrics.
- X revoked Kaito's data access due to excessive AI spam.

Bots significantly disrupted crypto influencer leaderboards, which were developed through a partnership between AI company Kaito and prediction markets like Polymarket. These leaderboards gamified attention and were intended to help advertisers assess influencer reach.
Kaito's system, tracking "mindshare" on X, faced an influx of bots aiming to inflate their influence for sponsorships. This artificial engagement degraded the user experience and diminished the credibility of the leaderboards.
In response to "a tremendous amount of AI slop & reply spam," X revoked Kaito's data access on January 15th. Consequently, Kaito discontinued its Yaps program, which offered "Yap points" and potential token access.
Kaito has since shifted focus to a more traditional marketing platform, though its leaderboards and related bets on platforms like Polymarket may continue, with Kaito's current mindshare calculation method remaining unclear.
