Boston Dynamics has announced that its Atlas humanoid robot, after years of development, is now entering production. The company reports that the final enterprise version is currently being built and will be deployed by Hyundai and Google DeepMind. This robot is engineered for industrial applications, boasting consistency and reliability.
The Atlas robot is designed for diverse operational needs, supporting autonomous work, teleoperation, or tablet interface control. Its specifications include a reach of up to 7.5 feet, a lifting capacity of 110 pounds, and an operating temperature range of minus 4 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hyundai plans to integrate Atlas into its car manufacturing facilities starting in 2028, initially focusing on parts sequencing. By 2030, the robot's duties are expected to expand to component assembly and other complex operations. Concurrently, Google DeepMind will utilize Atlas robots to integrate its Gemini Robotics AI foundation models into the system.
