The decentralized social media platform experienced substantial growth, with its user base expanding by nearly 60% to 41.2 million accounts during the year. This surge in users led to a significant increase in platform activity, with 1.41 billion posts made.
The company also reported a substantial increase in external scrutiny, noting a fivefold rise in legal requests from various agencies, escalating from 238 in 2024 to 1,470 in 2025. User-submitted moderation reports saw a 54% increase, closely mirroring user growth. The most frequent categories for these reports were 'misleading' content (including spam) and 'harassment'.
Beyond moderation, Bluesky reported removing 3,619 accounts suspected of involvement in influence operations, likely originating from Russia. The platform also applied 16.49 million content labels, a 200% year-over-year increase, predominantly for adult or suggestive content, indicating a preference for labeling over account takedowns. Automated systems flagged 2.54 million potential violations.
