OLED TV Breakthrough: Efficient Blue Pixels Nearing Production
1 Mar
Summary
- Blue PhOLED technology promises brighter and more energy-efficient OLED TVs.
- Lordin is preparing its ZRIET blue PhOLED technology for mass production.
- LG Display and Samsung are also advancing their own blue PhOLED developments.

The long-awaited blue phosphor OLED (PhOLED) technology is nearing mass production, potentially revolutionizing OLED televisions. South Korean OLED manufacturer Lordin has reportedly secured facilities for its ZRIET technology, signaling a shift from concept to consumer product.
This advancement promises substantial improvements in OLED display efficiency and longevity. Unlike current fluorescent emitters with 25% efficiency, PhOLED technology can achieve up to 100% efficiency, leading to brighter screens without increased heat. This addresses a key challenge in OLED longevity, as higher brightness often shortens pixel lifespan.
While Universal Display Corporation has been a primary driver of PhOLED, Lordin's alternative structure offers TV makers a new manufacturing option. LG Display has also announced commercialization-level progress in blue PhOLED. Although not expected this year, the timeline for seeing these advanced OLED TVs in the market is shortening.
