Summary
- Blue Origin's TeraWave network aims for 6Tb global bandwidth.
- The network will initially serve enterprise, data center, and government users.
- Satellite deployments are scheduled to commence near the end of 2027.

Blue Origin, led by former Amazon executive Dave Limp, has announced its ambitious TeraWave network, poised to challenge existing satellite internet providers. This new venture aims to deliver an unprecedented 6Tb of bandwidth for both uploads and downloads, accessible anywhere on Earth. The network's deployment is slated to begin around the end of 2027.
Designed with a "multi-orbit" approach, TeraWave will consist of 5,408 optically-connected satellites. While the majority will be in low-Earth orbit, offering speeds up to 144Gbps for terrestrial connections, a select 128 satellites in medium-Earth orbit will support the high-capacity 6Tb bidirectional links. This advanced network is specifically tailored for enterprise clients, data centers, and government users who prioritize dependable connectivity for their critical operations.
In contrast to services like SpaceX's Starlink or Amazon's own Project Kuiper, TeraWave is expected to serve a more limited customer base, targeting around 100,000 enterprise users. This strategic focus on specialized markets underscores Blue Origin's approach to the burgeoning satellite internet landscape.
