Jeff Bezos' space company, Blue Origin, has introduced designs for a significantly larger New Glenn rocket following a successful test flight. This super-heavy variant, dubbed New Glenn 9x4, will surpass the height of the Saturn V and match SpaceX's Starship in scale.
The enhanced booster will boast nine engines, up from seven, and an upgraded upper stage with four engines, up from two. This increased power will allow the rocket to lift over 70 metric tons to low-Earth orbit, positioning Blue Origin for ambitious missions including lunar and deep space exploration.
Alongside the super-heavy version, Blue Origin is also refining the existing 7x2 New Glenn model with reusable fairings and reduced turnaround times. The company is targeting an early 2026 launch for the new rocket and is advancing its uncrewed Blue Moon lunar lander program.
