Netgear Router Dominates Wi-Fi 7 Coverage Tests
23 Jul
Summary
- Netgear Nighthawk RS700S excels in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 7 coverage.
- Testing focused on signal strength across distance and obstructions.
- Linksys and Eero routers showed weaker performance in tests.

A recent evaluation of 15 Wi-Fi 7 routers from brands like Netgear, TP-Link, and Eero has identified the Netgear Nighthawk RS700S as the leader in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi coverage. Conducted in a dedicated lab environment, the testing specifically measured signal strength in decibel-milliwatts (dBm) to assess performance at varying distances and through physical barriers.
The methodology involved collecting signal strength readings at 61 fixed points, categorizing them into low, medium, and high distance and interference bands. This approach ensures that far-field performance, crucial for consistent connectivity in larger homes, is accurately represented rather than being averaged out by strong near-router signals.
The Netgear Nighthawk RS700S consistently delivered the strongest signals in the medium and high D&I bands, maintaining 'good' ratings. An honorable mention goes to the Netgear Orbi 370 for its 'excellent' low D&I performance. Conversely, the Linksys Velop Micro 7 ranked last for low and medium D&I, while the Eero 7 struggled with high D&I signal strength, though these results may differ on other frequency bands.
