BEML has successfully rolled out the prototype of its driverless metro trainsets, developed for the upcoming corridors of Namma Metro, encompassing Phases 2, 2A, and 2B. This significant development includes the highly anticipated Airport Line, set to revolutionize travel in Bengaluru.
The company has secured a contract to supply a total of 318 standard-gauge metro cars, all of which will be designed, engineered, and manufactured at BEML's facility in Bengaluru. The prototype was formally unveiled by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) Managing Director J Ravishankar, highlighting BEML's growing role in India's expanding metro network.
These next-generation trainsets incorporate advanced features such as energy-efficient systems, modern passenger information displays, USB charging ports, and enhanced safety compliance. The trains are designed for fully driverless operations, compatible with Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology, heralding a new era for urban transit in India.
