Ayar Labs, a prominent Silicon Valley startup, announced on September 10, 2026, that it has secured an additional $150 million in funding. This capital is an extension of its Series E round, which initially raised $500 million in March 2026. The company is at the forefront of developing co-packaged optics, a groundbreaking technology aimed at connecting artificial intelligence chips using optical fiber. This innovation promises to overcome the overheating challenges posed by conventional copper cables.
The substantial investment has enabled Ayar Labs to establish a new chip design center in Bengaluru, India. According to CEO Mark Wade, this expansion is crucial for preparing its products for market readiness by the conclusion of 2027. The company's strategic goal is to have its offerings qualified for volume production by the end of 2027, aligning with anticipated customer product ramp-ups between 2028 and 2029.
With the addition of Wiwynn Corp, a Taiwanese cloud data center equipment maker, as a new backer, Ayar Labs has raised a total of $650 million in 2026. Alongside this funding, a secondary share purchase of $225 million from early stakeholders valued Ayar Labs at over $5 billion, with participation from firms like Antero Peak Group, Sequoia Global Equities, ARK Invest, and Greycroft.
