Ayaneo has unveiled its Next 2, a Windows 11 handheld gaming device that has drawn attention for its steep prices, reaching up to $4,300 for its highest-end configuration. The device features a large 9-inch screen and weighs 3.1 pounds. The base model, equipped with 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, is priced at $1,999, while the premium version boasts 128GB of RAM and 2TB of storage for $4,299.
Ayaneo CEO Arthur Zhang explained that the significant price increases are a direct consequence of the current memory shortage. He cited tech companies securing chip supplies for AI data centers as a primary factor contributing to the crunch. Zhang indicated that the company would not profit at these elevated prices, noting that costs increased during development. The memory crunch is anticipated to persist into next year and has previously impacted other PC components like graphics cards and SSDs.
