Audi Sport has unveiled its latest RS5, a five-seat performance car that blends a turbocharged V6 engine with an electric motor, offering a significant performance upgrade over its predecessor. This new model features a completely redesigned 2.9L V6 engine that produces 502 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, while an electric motor adds 174 hp and 639 lb-ft of torque.
When both power sources work in tandem, the RS5 delivers a combined output of 630 hp and 609 lb-ft of torque. A substantial 22 kWh battery provides an estimated 50 miles of electric-only driving range. The car also features Audi's new Dynamic Torque Control system, which uses an electric motor to variably distribute torque between the rear wheels, allowing for adjustable handling characteristics.
Despite its significant weight of 5,180 lbs, the RS5 offers a refined driving experience with impressive stability, even in adverse weather conditions. On the road, it remains composed, but on the track, it reveals a more playful nature, capable of controlled slides. Pricing for the US market is expected to start around $100,000, with sales beginning next year.
