Summary
- The new Asus ROG Ally X20 features a stunning 7.4-inch OLED display.
- Ergonomic improvements include rubberized grips and refined buttons.
- The device maintains the same internal performance as its predecessor.
The Asus ROG Ally X20 gaming handheld has been released, offering notable design enhancements over its predecessor. The most significant upgrade is its 7.4-inch 1080p OLED display, boasting vibrant colors and a 120Hz refresh rate for an immersive gaming experience.
Further refinements include improved ergonomics with rubberized grips, tactile shoulder buttons, and rounded face buttons, all contributing to greater comfort during extended play sessions. The device also retains the user-friendly Xbox UI, which optimizes performance by reducing background Windows processes.
Despite these improvements, the ROG Ally X20 faces scrutiny due to its unchanged internal components, carrying the same AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip and 24GB of RAM as the previous Xbox Ally X. This results in comparable performance, which may fall short against newer competitors featuring different chipsets.
Compounding this issue is the device's elevated price point of $1,299, a considerable increase from the Xbox Ally X's $999. While it offers a premium visual and ergonomic experience, the lack of a performance upgrade at this price makes it a difficult recommendation for those seeking cutting-edge power.
