Summary
- Asus will offer a standalone OLED Ally handheld.
- Ergonomic upgrades include new grips and improved buttons.
- A transforming D-pad enhances gameplay in supported titles.

Asus is set to release a standalone version of its forthcoming OLED Ally handheld gaming device. This decision comes after initial plans indicated it would only be available bundled with Xreal AR glasses. The company confirmed discussions are underway regarding the standalone release schedule.
Early testing revealed significant ergonomic upgrades compared to the previous model. These include enhanced rubberized grips, quieter face buttons, and an improved cooling system. A particularly innovative feature is the 'transforming' D-pad, which can switch between eight-way and four-way configurations, notably improving play in games like Hollow Knight: Silksong.
While specific pricing and a release date for the standalone OLED Ally have not yet been confirmed, it is anticipated to cost more than the current $1,000 model. The previously considered bundle with ROG Xreal R1 Gaming Glasses was expected to reach up to $2,000.
